Middle Market group health insurance may offer more plan choices than those offered to small groups. Each health insurance company may have their own requirements on the number of employees required to fall into mid-size group health insurance, however, in general middle market consists of 51 to 300 employees. A larger portfolio of plans is available under this classification and some of the plans may have greater benefits than those offered to smaller groups. These plans, because they are medically underwritten, tend to have lower premiums than the small group market. As the group size increases, the group’s claims are also taken into account when looking at renewal ratings.
